Slow and steady wins the race, right? When I get impatient, I keep reminding myself... I want Ronen to come home so badly, and the doctors won't commit to any timeline, but we're taking steps in the right direction and all I can do is pray...
Actually, today has been a day of great progress. He's down to .03 mg/kg/hour of morphine and .05 mg/kg/hour of versed, down from .12 just a few days ago. He'll be transitioning off of the morphine and versed in the next couple of days, and transitioning to other meds (Ativan and methadone) as a step-down. And, if everything keeps going as it is now, the breathing tube will come out tomorrow and he'll transition to C-PAP support, then to a nasal cannula (eventually). He's also now being fed 28 mL of breastmilk per feeding through an NG tube every 3 hours, aiming ultimately for 60 mL per feeding, and they'll wean him off IV nutrition within the next day or so.
Ronen is more awake now than he has been, though not for long stretches of time. Hinda held him for over an hour today, and while he was awake for a few minutes, he quickly made himself comfortable and happily drifted back to sleep.
The nurses appreciate Ronen's taste in music. His varied playlist, playing on shuffle, for maximum relaxation and healing, currently includes the following:
Refa'eynu (Lev Tahor / Tizmoret)
Amen (Liora / Tizmoret)
Darkeinu
Corner of the Sky (from "Pippin")
I Am What I Am (from "La Cage Aux Folles")
My Best Girl/My Best Beau (from "Mame")
Can't Help Falling in Love With You (Andrea Boccelli)
HaMal'ach HaGo'el Oti (D'veykus)
New Words (from "In the Beginning")
Twinkle, Twinkle (Hinda's recording)
Can You Feel the Love Tonight (from "The Lion King")
Forever Young (from "Mr. Tambourine Man" by John Corigliano)
... Other suggestions welcome!
